Ryton Community Library, in conjunction with GemArts, held the second of two summer holiday events this afternoon. Last month you could come along and have a bash (quite literally) at African Drumming. Today it was over to India and Bollywood Dancing. Many years ago my best friend Irene took me to something called “Dancersize” at a dance school over in the West End of Newcastle. I only lasted one night. After two hours of attempting to teach me a thirty-second routine (step to the side and forward jump) the instructor suggested I might be better suited to basket weaving, thus blighting my dancing enthusiasm for the next three decades. Suzi Scarlett, who was in charge today, is nothing like that. She’s an excellent teacher, and had me doing the Bollywood hand and arm movements rather splendidly. I thought so anyway. Unfortunately the next bit required me to simultaneously move my feet, and I’ve got this gammy leg you see. Never mind, here are the photos – look at what you missed!
