Heather and I had a smashing time on Saturday evening with our friend Lyz, and some new pals she introduced us to, Chelsea and Andrew. The occasion was “Race Night for Borneo” at Ye Olde Cross in Ryton Village. It was an event of virtual horse racing, to raise funds to send a group of students from Thorp Academy to Borneo with Camps International for a four-week expedition in July. We were made to feel wonderfully welcome by organisers Ann, Ania and Ted, and we got chatting to a couple of the young people who will be making the trip, Tesni Caink and Niamh Euers. Special mention must be given to the delicious food put on by Gareth Bell of In Leisure Catering, we enjoyed all of it – but particularly the curry. Gareth can be contacted on 07507645196. We didn’t win much money, but we had a great time with some lovely people. I hope we’re invited back to the next one!
